Infectious Disease Specialist Ahmed Abubaker, MD, Joins MSU Medicine Specialty

PHYSICIAN SUPPORTS DECREASE OF ANTIBIOTIC OVERUSE

MSU HealthTeam extends a warm welcome to our newest faculty member, Ahmed Abubaker, MD.

Abubaker comes to us with educational backgrounds from Sudan, Qatar, New York, and North Carolina. His practice specialties include infectious disease and internal medicine. Abubaker’s latest areas of interest include antimicrobial medicines, tropical medicine and international health, quality improvement in health care, and medical education. Abubaker works with the antimicrobial stewardship, specifically in nursing homes, in which he has been able to conduct vast research of his own.

Abubaker’s research includes a wide range of topics including, decreasing inappropriate antibiotic use in long term care facilities, MRSA colonization in patients re-admitted after discharge from a nursing home, and an approach to reduce antibiotic use for treatment of Asymptotic Bacteriuria.

Abubaker joins our multi-specialty group as a board-certified infectious disease specialist. He is adding to our complement of 225 providers performing cutting-edge research, teaching medical and nursing students, and providing exceptional care to the Greater Lansing community.
